GlaxoSmithKline hands global media account to PHD and GroupM
GlaxoSmithKline has announced that PHD and GroupM have been selected to handle its global media account, worth an estimated 1.1 billion pounds.
GroupM, which encompasses MediaCom and Mindshare, is expected to retain the European element of the global media account, while PHD will retain the US business, reports Campaign. The agencies were selected following a competitive pitch.
The global account includes the former Novartis vaccine business, which was acquired as part of a three-part transaction completed earlier this year and saw GlaxoSmithKline sell off its oncology business, while also agreeing to collaborate on a consumer health joint venture.
Starcom previously handled media for Novartis, but decided not to participate in the most recent review. It continues to be involved in discussions with GlaxoSmithKline as to how this new arrangement will affect its work.
A spokesperson at GlaxoSmithKline said: "Both are world-class global media agencies and will be key partners in driving media strategy and trading for the new GlaxoSmithKline and we are delighted to make these awards."
