GlaxoSmithKline ranked 6th Business Superbrand
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has been ranked sixth in the Business Superbrands’ official top 500 companies for 2009.
The annual programme recognises and celebrates the strongest business-to-business names, the organisers explained.
In order to achieve a place on the list, firms must represent quality, reliability and distinction.
Through a commissioned independent research process, a panel of experts are asked their opinion on every major UK brand and each one is then awarded an index score.
Pharmaceuticals and biotech company GSK achieved an index rating of 94.68, compared with Nokia’s score of 96.59 that placed it fifth in the ranking. Google scored 100 and came first.
In other news, GSK announced earlier this month that a phase III clinical trial of a drug, called Syncria, designed to treat type two diabetes would begin.
With its headquarters in the UK, the firm produces medicines to treat six major disease areas – asthma, virus control, infections, mental health, diabetes and digestive conditions.
The business also markets many other over-the-counter-products such as Gaviscon, Panadol, Aquafresh, Macleans and Nicorette.
