GlaxoSmithKline to collaboratively commercialise Enigma ML
GlaxoSmithKline is to ally with Enigma Diagnostics on the commercialisation of the Enigma ML diagnostic platform.
The agreement will see GlaxoSmithKline make a number of investments to support the further development of the device, a point-of-care system that can deliver diagnoses of respiratory conditions in less than 60 minutes.
Under the terms of the deal, funding will be offered to aid the creation of a new range of respiratory tests for use on the real-time polymerase chain reaction technology platform.
GlaxoSmithKline will benefit from the opportunity to generate revenues from further test developments in the infectious disease field, while building on its expertise and experience in this area.
Eddie Gray, president for pharmaceuticals at GlaxoSmithKline in Europe, said the deal offers "the opportunity to offer a more complete solution to the healthcare community and improve patient care through the provision of rapid, state-of-the-art diagnostic tests".
Earlier this month, the company announced another new alliance with Unigene, this time focusing on the development of a new treatment for osteoporosis.
