GlaxoSmithKline wins environmental award from Nalco

25th February 2011

GlaxoSmithKline has been granted an award for its corporate environmental performance from science and sustainability services firm Nalco.

The pharmaceutical company was presented with Nalco's 2010 Environmental Stewardship Award in recognition of its efforts to cut its energy and water usage in order to minimise its impact on global climate.

Using solutions provided by Nalco, GlaxoSmithKline has been able to achieve 325,000 cubic metres worth of water savings, while also reducing its CO2 emissions by 2,000 metric tonnes.

The firm is also working towards a target of cutting energy use by 45 percent per unit of sales before 2015.

Richard Pamenter, vice-president and head of the healthcare company's environmental sustainability centre of excellence, said the honour "reinforces our commitment to environmental sustainability, which is essential to our role as a good corporate citizen."

Earlier this month, GlaxoSmithKline announced that it will be providing discounted pneumococcal vaccine supplies to Kenya as part of its responsibilities under the Advance Market Commitment scheme.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800428029-ADNFCR
