Global Covid Vaccine Undertaking Jumped Up by Almost 4%

18th July 2022

New information dictates that undertaking of the Covid 19 vaccination went up by 3.7% from 2020 to 2021.

According to the results of a 2021 questionnaire polling 23 thousand people from 23 countries, over 75% said they had received Covid vaccinations. This is a significant addition to the 71.5% that gave the same answer in 2020.

2021 was a year of significant Covid vaccine progress, however, this did not come with an equal response in terms of rollout or acceptance.

There have been a number of cases where individuals are reluctant to receive a dose due to worries about their effectiveness and safety, coupled with scepticism of the science underpinning vaccine development.

Additional elements that impact perception and acceptance are people’s own experience, including illness or death of a relative; as well as demographic variables such as level of income, standard of education, and gender.

Interestingly, the public’s reaction to the vaccine did not correspond directly with the country’s ability to cope with the pandemic. Russia was the least accepting with over 48% reluctant to receive one, followed by Nigeria at 43% and Poland at almost 41%. Countries with the widest vaccine acceptance were China at just 2.4% hesitancy, the UK at almost 19% and Canada at just below 21%.

Jeffrey Lazarus, from CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy, said that “In order to improve global vaccination rates, some countries may at present require people to present proof of vaccination to attend work, school, or indoor activities and events.”

Dean Ayman El-Mohandes. commented that: “recommendations by a doctor, or to a lesser extent by an employer, might have an impact on a respondent’s views on vaccination in some countries.”
