Gore study shows efficacy of stent grafts for stenoses and thrombotic occlusions

Gore's recently ended REVISE Clinical Study has shown that stent grafts outperform percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) for the treatment of stenoses or thrombotic occlusions.

In a statement issued on February 20th, Gore said full results would be presented at the 10th Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology, but disclosed "statistical superiority" over PTA had been recorded through a two-year follow-up period.

Specifically, researchers tested the Gore Viabahn Endoprosthesis with Heparin Bioactive Surface in both stenotic and thrombotic occlusive arteriovenous (AV) access patients.

While PTA is the current standard of care for these parties, the stent graft was proved to be equal in terms of procedure-related adverse events, as well as less likely to require repeat interventions.

"The results of our study clearly demonstrate the superior clinical benefit of using a stent graft for AV graft revisions as opposed to PTA alone," commented Tom Vesely, medical director of the study.
