Government announces £16 million investment in ‘life saving’ medical advances

The Government announces its plans to invest £16 million into various ‘life saving’ medical advances including the improved diagnosis and treatment of heart disease and cancer.
The funding will be split between 13 precision medicine projects for UK based mall or medium sized enterprises (known as SME’s), who can then conduct necessary information to be able to explore how to treat currently incurable forms of lung cancer, and develop a blood test for early detection of brain cancer.
Business secretary, Greg Clark commented “we’re delivering the biggest ever boost to R & D funding in UK history. The UK has a rich history of driving medical breakthrough and with this investment, UK firms will be able to propel crucial research that will allow the population to reap the rewards of life saving advances and better treatments into devastating diseases such as cancer and heart disease. “
As well as the funding, a competition has also opened, giving medical companies the opportunity to win a slice of £22million to develop digital pathology technologies, which could help medical professionals diagnose diseases.
