Government highlights commitment to promoting physical activity

14th February 2014

The government and Mayor of London have announced the launch of a new campaign that aims to promote physical activity and fitness across the UK.

Entitled Moving More, Living More, the campaign will bring together individuals and key organisations such as local authorities, businesses and employers to tackle inactivity on multiple levels.

It will shine a light on existing good practice, celebrate the work of local champions who drive a huge variety of local activities and provide people with opportunities to get fit in a way that suits their lifestyles, while tackling the barriers that prevent people from getting active.

The overall aim of this initiative will be to build on the foundations and legacy left by the success of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.

Public health minister Jane Ellison said: "Physical activity is an essential ingredient for a healthier nation and can deliver so many other benefits for individuals and the wider community."

This comes as part of wider efforts, spearheaded by the London Legacy Development Corporation, to ensure the 2012 Games leave behind a long-term regenerative effect on the UK as a whole.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801693864-ADNFCR
