Government launches Games4Life health campaign
The government is to promote healthier, more active lifestyles through the launch of a new campaign called Games4Life this summer.
Capitalising on the excitement generated by the various international sporting events being televised over the coming months, the initiative will encourage participants to fill out a lifestyle questionnaire in return for a tailored Games4Life activity pack.
Around 2.6 million activity packs have already been distributed to 7,500 schools across the country, while companies such as Asda, Aldi and JJB Sports have pledged their support.
The campaign aims to combat the trend of sports fans spending the summer sat in front of the TV watching the Olympics or European Championships, while eating unhealthy snacks and food.
Health secretary Andrew Lansley said: "We know that playing sport can be as much fun as watching it and we want to help people make the most of opportunities to get active."
Earlier this year, a new Change4Life scheme was introduced to raise awareness of the dangers posed by drinking even a small amount above the recommended alcohol intake level.
