Government unveils investment for care of disabled children

A total of 770 million pounds will be invested in care for disabled children over the next three years, it has been revealed.

The government funding is part of the campaign Healthy Lives, Brighter Future: The Strategy for Children and Young People’s Health – published by health secretary Alan Johnson and children’s secretary Ed Balls.

Announced today, the investment will be used to pay for the development and testing of a new antenatal programme, expansion of the Family Nurse Partnerships scheme and more health visitors.

Mr Johnson said the strategy “will help to ensure that healthcare and children’s services work together to help every child to have a healthy and happy start to life”.

He added the funding will “improve the experience” of disabled young people and their families, by providing high quality services.

In December last year, Mr Balls unveiled a 12 million pound investment into services for children with speech, language and communication needs.
