GSK Announces Findings from Late-Stage Myeloma Treatment Study
Ella Jackson
GSK has disclosed favorable preliminary findings from the late-stage study of Blenrep intended for addressing relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma.
Relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma refers to a type of blood cancer where the disease has either returned after an initial response to treatment (relapsed) or is resistant to standard therapies (refractory).
Based on the results, the study achieved its main goal of progression-free survival as the Blenrep combination candidate showed prolongation in the duration of patients’ disease-free survival compared to the conventional treatment.
The safety and acceptability characteristics of the Blenrep regimen aligned with previously documented information regarding the individual medications included.
Hesham Abdullah, GSK R&D Chief Officer of Oncology, commented, “The results seen in both DREAMM-7 and DREAMM-8 provide strong clinical evidence of the robust efficacy shown with belantamab mafodotin in use with standard of care combinations.”
Abdullah went on to add, “This is exciting news for patients given the high unmet medical need for both efficacious and easily administered therapies with differing mechanisms of action.”
