Haemonetics announces Richard Meelia’s retirement

8th April 2009

Haemonetics has announced Richard Meelia has retired from its board of directors after spending four years with the company.

Chairman Brad Nutter asserted Mr Meelia’s breadth of experience in the industry had proved to be beneficial and lead to key strategic decisions being implemented.

He added the business had also been transformed from a niche medical device company to a “global leader in blood management solutions” during the period.

Mr Meelia has decided to step down from his position with Haemonetics in order to focus his efforts on Covidien, where he serves as the chairman, president and chief executive officer.

He commented: “I am proud of my association with the company, its employees and my colleagues on the board.

“There is an exciting future in store for this business.”

Earlier this month, the healthcare company acquired a privately held information management company Altivation Software.

The latter markets a real-time database called Hemasphere, which provides operational information to blood centre management, while automating resource and sponsor organisation of drives.
