Henry Schein climbs to 287th in Fortune 500 rankings

Henry Schein has marked 11 years in the Fortune 500 ranking of the biggest US-based corporations by announcing it has reached 287th position in the list.

Previously ranked at number 292, the company has been able to ascend to this position after growing at a compound annual rate of 16 percent since going public back in 1995.

The firm generated a net sales total of $10.4 billion (6.69 billion pounds) in 2014, up from $4.1 billion in 2004 when it first debuted on the Fortune 500 at number 487.

It has been recognised as a Fortune Most Admired Company for 14 consecutive years, ranking first overall on the list in the wholesalers: healthcare industry and first in all nine sub-categories that comprise the overall ranking.

The firm was also selected to join the Standard and Poor's 500 earlier this year.
