Hologic launches new cervical cancer screening solutions

Hologic is introducing a pair of new ready-to-market automated cervical screening options at an industry congress this week.

The company is attending the International Papillomavirus Conference and Clinical Workshop in Berlin, where it is demonstrating the new ThinPrep 5000 sample transfer system and Cervista medium throughput automation device.

Both are designed to work in tandem to offer a scalable, fully-automated solution for human papillomavirus testing, thus eliminating the wasted time and error risks associated with manual handling.

The devices have been granted CE Mark approval and are set for launch in European territories, offering a new means of combating one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases.

Rohan Hastie, vice-president and general manager for Hologic Molecular Diagnostics, said: "These products are designed to provide the small and medium volume laboratory access to the most effective and efficient cervical cancer screening technology available."

Last month, the company announced its financial results for the fiscal quarter ending on June 25th 2011, during which it saw record revenues, thanks to growth in all four of its operating segments.
