Hologic launches new global endometrial ablation system

Hologic has announced the launch of its next-generation NovaSure 6mm global endometrial ablation system.

Designed for the treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding, the device is able to apply radiofrequency energy to the endometrium and gently remove the lining of the uterus in two minutes or less.

It offers customers a smaller diameter ablation device and an advanced interactive touchscreen radiofrequency controller, thereby optimising patient comfort and improving physician ease-of-use.

Hologic expects that the full release of the device in both the US and international markets will take place in December 2014.

Carter Houghton, Hologic's senior vice-president and general manager for GYN surgical solutions, said: "Our next-generation NovaSure system provides feature enhancements that our customers have been requesting while maintaining the efficacy of the NovaSure ablation profile that has proven superior to other endometrial ablation modalities for over ten years."

The company saw a year-on-year revenue increase of 6.2 percent during the fourth quarter of its 2014 business year, with improved results generated by all four of Hologic's business segments.
