Hologic study shows benefits of Genius 3D Mammography

6th April 2016

Hologic has announced the publication of new study data showing the benefits its Genius 3D Mammography technology can provide in detecting breast cancer.

The first systematic review of breast tomosynthesis literature has been published, with the results supporting prior findings that 3D Mammography exams – which consist of breast tomosynthesis plus digital mammography – offer a higher rate of invasive cancer detection with fewer false positives than digital mammography alone.

This conclusion was reached after a review of all relevant literature on the subject published up to October 2014, including all major screening trials conducted in Europe and the US. The majority of these studies were shown to have been of high quality, with a very low risk of bias.

Pete Valenti, Hologic's president for breast and skeletal health solutions, said: "The review confirms the benefits of the Genius 3D Mammography exam and demonstrates that women everywhere should have access to this important screening."

The technology is currently approved in 30 countries. It has been clinically proven to reduce patient callbacks by up to 40 percent, while successfully detecting 41 percent more invasive breast cancers.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801816091-ADNFCR
