Hope&Glory puts parental leave policies in the public domain
Consumer PR agency Hope&Glory offer all women the same maternity package, irrespective of position or job title, and want it to be public knowledge. They have put their parental leave policies in the public domain on their website to address workplace discrimination against parents, and hope that by publishing theirs, it will encourage more companies to reflect upon how they too could best support parents.
Jo Carr, managing partner, says some people still believe they might be subject to discrimination if they enquire about parental leave. “We wanted to pre-empt this and send a message to the women and men who might be thinking about joining us that we’re more than happy to talk about it. We also want potential recruits to know that they don’t have to ask if it’s something they feel uncomfortable discussing by making the information publicly available. Though we’d like to create a race to the top on parental policy, this is more about making what is already on offer public. The fact that parental policies aren’t published means that it’s all too easy to stick to the legal requirements, rather than think about the best package we can offer. We would encourage others to follow suit so that pay and leave for new parents is available for all to see.”
