Horiba completes Photon Technology International takeover

Horiba has announced that it has completed its acquisition of Photon Technology International (PTI), which has now been incorporated into its Horiba Scientific business.

Originally agreed in February 2014, the deal will strengthen the company's market leadership in fluorescence spectroscopy, as PTI is a prominent provider of research spectrofluorometers to universities, research labs and industrial and biomedical clients.

In particular, the acquired company is recognised as a world leader in microscopy-based fluorometers, especially for intracellular ion imaging. It also manufactures and distributes lasers and other optical components under the Optical Building Blocks brand.

Horiba will be able to expand its presence in the microscopy and biomedical markets following the takeover, while PTI will benefit from having its range of innovations made available to a wider global customer base.

Steve Slutter, president of Horiba Scientific in the Americas, said: "The additional products, personnel and manufacturing and development resources of PTI will allow us to offer an even more complete set of present and future solutions for researchers."
