Horiba Scientific wins award for Verde Hyperspectral camera

Horiba Scientific's Verde Hyperspectral camera has been recognised as one of the 100 most technologically significant products launched in the past year by the editors of R&D Magazine.

The device has been selected by the publication – in association with an expert judging panel – as a winner at the 50th annual R&D 100 Awards, recognised as a benchmark of excellence across various industry sectors.

It is the first hyperspectral camera designed to measure a complete hyperspectral image set simultaneously, capturing data in as little as three milliseconds.

Using a patented 2D dispersion element to capture all spatial and spectral information in a single image, it can avoid the need for averaged or repeated experiments, even when dealing with samples such as live organisms.

Dr Sal Atzeni, vice-president and chief technology officer, said: "Verde is an excellent example in which our work … resulted in a unique product that enables our customers to capture transient phenomena as hyperspectral data in a way never before possible."

This comes after the company's Horiba Medical division recently announced the European and UK launch of its new Microsemi CRP haematology analyser, following on from a successful Japanese debut.
