Hospira elects new board member

10th March 2009

Hospira has elected Heino von Prondzynski as a “complimentary addition” to its board of directors.

At the end of 2006, the 59-year-old retired from Roche where he served as chief executive officer and a member of the executive committee.

While with the firm, Mr von Prondzynski brought its diagnostics division to global market leadership and produced industry-standard profitability ratios.

He also assisted with the expansion of its molecular diagnostics portfolio and helped the company enter into the blood-screening market.

Christopher B Begley, chairman and chief executive officer of Hospira, said Mr von Prondzynski’s interest for developing talent and driving innovative production would make him an “excellent” addition to the nine other directors.

He commented: “Heino has an impressive track record of achievement in the healthcare industry and significant experience in delivering global growth and expansion.”

Last month, Hospira announced the launch of the GemStar infusion system. It is designed to assist medical professionals to care for patients safely and is aimed to combat the 1.5 million medication errors that occur every year when administrating drugs.
