Hospira expects full oxaliplatin injection approval soon

Hospira expects to receive full approval from the Food and Drug Administration of its oxaliplatin injection soon.

This assertion came after the New Jersey district court decided the drug did not infringe Sanofi Aventis’ patent for the chemotherapy medication Eloxatin.

Hospira’s version of the therapy will come in solution form and vice-president of the company’s speciality pharmaceuticals division Joshua Gordon asserted the firm was very pleased with the court’s ruling.

“The launch of ? [our] oxaliplatin injection will provide a high-quality, lower-cost alternative to patients and is another example of ? [us] working to meet patient and caregiver needs in the fast-growing oncology market,” he said.

Currently, there are around 200 generic injectible drugs in many formulations and dosages in the business’ portfolio.

Therapeutic areas it provides treatments for include analgesics, anti-infectives, cardiovascular, oncology and anaesthesia.

Hospira has some 25 generic drugs due to be launched in various areas worldwide during 2009 and 2010.

With a 70-year history, the company now offers careers in a number of disciplines such as production, operations, sales, marketing and information technology.
