Iceni Diagnostics has created a 15 minute COVID-19 test – ready for commercial rollout

Iceni Diagnostics’ state-of-the-art fifteen-minute COVID-19 test, to identify whether a person is infectious, is experiencing final trials and available for commercial rollout.

The technology provides an accurate and rapid lateral flow test that detects the interaction of the virus with sugars across human cells.

Iceni is now taking commercial orders for its tests, with production underway at a South Wales manufacturer.

A glycoscientist working at Manchester Institute of Biotechnology, Professor Rob Field, who developed the technology, stated: “Respiratory viruses invade the body through cells in the airways and lungs. These cells are covered in a coat of sugar chains known as glycans, which are used for normal function of human tissues. Viruses can utilise these glycans as part of the infection process.”
