Idexx announces new equine leads for ECG Teletransmitters

Veterinary supplier Idexx Telemedicine has announced the launch of its new equine leads that aim to help practitioners better capture and transmit electrocardiograms (EGCs) to identify and evaluate abnormal heart rhythms in horses.

The company said the leads work in conjunction with the company’s Idexx Teletransmitter that stores and transmits an analogue signal from the horse, before it is digitised to simplify access by cardiology consultation services.

Idexx said it is vital to differentiate between pathalogic and physiologic arrhythmias, with an ECG essential to make the correct diagnosis.

Deborah Hadlock, of IDEXX Telemedicine, said: “Running an ECG is the gold standard for diagnosing and evaluating cardiac arrhythmias that can result in poor performance or sudden death in a horse.”

She added the new leads can make it easy to obtain a good ECG reading and transmit it over the phone for speedy evaluation.

Earlier this month, Idexx announced the launch of its equine respiratory RealPCR panel to help diagnose respiratory disease.
