Idexx’s M bovis Ab Test added to OIE registry

Idexx Laboratories' M bovis Ab Test has been added to the official World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) registry of tests.

Following an exacting independent review, the OIE has validated and certified the kit as being fit for purpose in the detection of bovine tuberculosis, representing the first time the organisation has validated an antibody test for this specification.

Launched in 2011, the product offers a fast three-hour protocol that provides high-quality results from serum or plasma samples already collected for other disease surveillance purposes.

It is used in countries such as Ireland and Chile, and is currently undergoing research studies in the UK, France and New Zealand.

Olivier te Boekhorst, vice-president and general manager for livestock and poultry diagnostics at Idexx Laboratories, said: "Now government laboratories, livestock veterinarians and producers can choose with confidence a robust, reproducible tool for their comprehensive tuberculosis disease management programme."

According to the firm's most recent fiscal report, Idexx generated revenues of $322.7 million (205.56 million pounds) in the first quarter of 2012, up by ten percent year over year.
