Ilika and Cirtec Medical Launch US Production of Stereax Micro-Batteries
Ilika PLC, in collaboration with Cirtec Medical, has commenced US production of its innovative Stereax solid-state micro-batteries for medical implants. Establishing manufacturing at Cirtec Medical’s Massachusetts facility, this development is set to revolutionise the medical device industry by offering safer, longer-lasting power solutions essential for next-generation implantable devices.
Ilika, an AIM-listed company known for its cutting-edge battery technology, has initiated US production following successful qualification of its Stereax M300 line at Cirtec Medical’s Lowell facility. This marks the beginning of a significant ten-year agreement formed in 2023, highlighting the growing demand for miniaturised energy solutions in the healthcare sector. The Stereax micro-batteries leverage solid-state technology, utilising a solid electrolyte to enhance safety and allow for compact design, thereby diminishing leakage risks and paving the way for advancements in medical implants. The Lowell facility is equipped with sophisticated deposition and patterning systems essential for high-quality, medical-grade battery manufacturing. According to Graeme Purdy, CEO of Ilika, this transition to commercial production scale underscores the successful technology transfer of the Stereax platform.
