Inverness Medical sees improved revenue in Q4 2009

Inverness Medical has published its financial breakdown for the fourth quarter of 2009, a period which saw the company experience year-on-year revenue improvements.

The healthcare science company’s net revenue for the three-month period came to a total of $546.2 million (350.1 million pounds), which compared favourably to the $432.8 million figure recorded in the final quarter of 2008.

It attributed these improvements in part to incremental net revenue associated with recent corporate acquisitions, as well as a major upturn in sales for influenza treatments.

The firm also saw the performance of its nutritionals unit improve during the October-to-December quarter, with the business having been classified as discontinued due to its imminent sale.

Ron Zwanziger, chairman and chief executive officer of the firm, described the results as strong, adding: “We exit 2009 not only stronger financially, but in a better strategic position than ever before.”

Earlier this month, the company agreed a deal to purchase Kroll Laboratory Specialists, which specialises in substance abuse testing products and services.
