Invitation to one day event Inspiring Women in Dentistry
Dr Andrea Ubhi and Dr Martina Hodgson, two well renowned dentists, have collaborated on a one day event on Friday 15th March 2019, designed to bring together and inspire women in UK dentistry. It will be held at Hazlewood Castle, Nr Bramham, Leeds, and speakers at the event will include award-winning aesthetic dentist and orthodontist Dr Catherine McCanny; lawyer, author, public speaker and philanthropist Marilyn Stowe; Mary Storrie, founder of the Rosie May Foundation.
Dr Ubhu said: “I’ve always been strongly against women’s meetings, but the stats aren’t adding up for equality, so thought it would be interesting to see how interested women are; it seems they are really interested. Issues coming out are lack of confidence, imposter syndrome and often being the only women in a roomful of men on courses they attend. Only 5% of implant dentists worldwide are female. Only 19% of business owners are female, etc. I think that it is time for women leaders to stand a little taller and act as strong role models for the upcoming generations, so they can follow on, especially since it is predicted that 70% of graduates will be female, which means there could be a deficit of leaders in the dental economy in the future. Inspiring Women in Dentistry started when I bumped into Martina for the first time in a coffee shop. We could have talked dentistry, business and everything under the sun for hours. We discussed how inspiring it is to speak with other women in dentistry. This full day event will give you knowledge, inspiration and time to build friendships with fellow professional women in dentistry.”
