Invitrogen partner reports success

Invitrogen’s long-term partner company Illumina has reported successful sales of its Genome Analyzer DNA sequencing platform.

The latest transaction takes the total number of units sold to 75, according to the manufacturer, of which 16 have been installed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Broad Institute.

John West, senior vice-president and general manager of the firm’s sequencing business, said: "We are pleased with the rapid adoption of the Genome Analyzer and enthusiastic about its potential to change the way genetic analysis is conducted."

"By delivering economical highly accurate sequence data, the research community now has the power to carry out studies that are transforming genetic analysis," he added.

The alliance between Invitrogen and Illumina was announced in December 2004, with Invitrogen supplying small synthetic DNA sequences for reference purposes.

Illumina lists the collaboration as one of its five key areas from which future development may be derived.
