Ipsen and Debiopharm announce launch of Decapeptyl

Ipsen and Debiopharm have revealed that a 22.5 mg six-month sustained-release formulation of Decapeptyl (triptorelin embonate1) has been launched in France.

The drug, which is indicated for the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic hormone-dependent prostate cancer, is set to be launched in Germany and Portugal in the future and is currently awaiting approval for other nations, such as the UK, Ireland, Italy and Romania.

Marketing authorisation for Decapeptyl was granted in November 2009 by French regulatory authorities.

The compound was developed by Debiopharm, which licensed the marketing rights to Ipsen for all territories where the firm commercialises triptorelin.

Ipsen and Debiopharm announced the successful completion of the European decentralised registration procedure for nine countries in October 2009.

Earlier this month, Ipsen unveiled its financial results for 2009, revealing a 7.6 per cent growth in drug sales during the period.

Consolidated group sales stood at 1,032.8 million euros (900,000 pounds) for the whole of 2009 – a year-on-year increase of 6.8 per cent.
