Ipsen names new chief medical officer

1st February 2018

Ipsen has announced that Dr Sotirios Stergiopoulos has been promoted to the role of chief medical officer.

Dr Stergiopoulos has been with Ipsen since January 2017, when he was hired as its senior vice-president and head of global medical affairs. He will retain this position in addition to his new responsibilities as chief medical officer.

Prior to joining Ipsen, he served as vice-president and head of global medical affairs within Baxalta's oncology division, and has also previously served in key roles at Celgene, Novartis and Bayer.

He has particularly strong experience in directing global medical affairs strategies and in oncology drug development, with his past work encompassing chemotherapy, immunology drugs and targeted agents across various tumour indications.

Dr Alexandre Lebeaut, executive vice-president for research and development and chief scientific officer of Ipsen, said: "We are delighted to appoint him to an expanded role through which he will make the voice of the patient heard at the highest levels of the organisation and represent the company externally as its primary medical representative."
