Ivoclar Vivadent adds wax tree production method for IPS e.max press

Ivoclar Vivadent has introduced a new software add-on for its IPS e.max press technology that allows users to produce ready-made wax trees.

With this new add-on, numerous press objects to be combined together in a wax tree for printing using a 3D printer. Wax trees are outputted using an open STL format, allowing any conventional 3D printer to be used.

The software is based on the CAMbridge software from 3Shape and reduces the spruing process considerably, with sprues are automatically positioned on the press objects and aligned according to the instructions in the IPS Sprue Guide.

In doing so, the safety and the quality of the pressing process can be improved, while still allowing individual corrections to spruing positions and the length of the pressing channels to be made.

The company said: "The 'Wax Tree' function combines modern 3D printing technology with the well-proven press technology. Using this method, IPS e.max press restorations can be easily and economically produced."

This new functionality will be available as an add-on for Wieland customers, while non-Wieland customers who own a 3Shape dental system can use the software via a separate dongle.
