Janssen outlines potential blockbuster drug pipeline strategy to 2019
Janssen has briefed industry analysts on its plans to fuel its continued growth between now and 2019 with a series of blockbuster drug launches.
The Johnson and Johnson-owned company plans to file for regulatory approval of more than ten new products between 2015 and 2019, each with the potential to exceed $1 billion in revenue, as well as more than 40 line extensions of existing and new medicines.
Its portfolio is focused on five core therapeutic areas – immunology, infectious diseases and vaccines, neuroscience, cardiovascular and metabolism, and oncology – and is expected to drive Janssen to continued above-industry compound annual growth for the next four years.
The firm has launched 14 new products since 2009, seven of which already exceed or are on track to achieve sales in excess of $1 billion during 2015.
Dr William Hait, global head of Janssen Research and Development, said: "Using our powerful research platforms in combination with our five focused therapeutic areas, underpinned by strong in-house capabilities and cutting-edge external partnerships, we are striving to deliver the next generation of medical innovations that prevent, intercept and treat disease."
Driven by the Janssen division, Johnson and Johnson saw a three percent year-on-year increase in pharmaceutical sales during the first quarter of 2015, or a 10.2 percent operational increase once negative currency trends were factored out.
