Johnson and Johnson announces delay in treatment approval

Johnson & Johnson has announced that there has been a delay in the approval of a treatment from one of its subsidiaries.

The remedy, called Zevtera, from Janssen-Cilag is in the final stages of authorisation by the European Commission for the use on complicated skin and soft tissue infections.

During a two phase III trials, the product was found to have more beneficial results compared to other treatments for the condition.

Able to act against a range of difficult to treat problems, Zevtera is one of the first broad-spectrum, anti-MRSA cephalosporin antibiotic.

In hospitals, complicated skin and soft tissue infections are among the most common viruses.

Janssen-Cilag, part of the Johnson & Johnson group, develops and markets a number of treatments for conditions such as bacterial infections, pain management, epilepsy and schizophrenia.

Johnson & Johnson also stated this week that a scholarship to support minority women in medicine was launched by Ambi Skincare.

It is the second annual national programme of its kind designed to recognise and reward the work of African-American and Hispanic females in the profession.
