Johnson and Johnson launches bi-directional catheter

Johnson & Johnson has this week announced that it is making a new bi-directional cardiac catheter available for the treatment of patient with irregular heart rhythms.

The EZ Steer bio-directional catheter is being launched by Biosence Webster, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. The product aims to assist physicians reverting atrial tachycardias into normal sinus rhythm to enable an efficient heart pump.

Using a proprietary micro-tensioning system, doctors can progressively dial the exact force required to deflect the catheter through a sequence of micro-movements to attain greater predictability and smoother deflection, abolishing the need for the curve position to be locked and unlocked repeatedly.

Emile Daoud, section director of Electrophysiology at Ohio State University, said: “The steady hold and predictable response of the EZ Steer catheter is an advancement for the bi-directional ablation catheters offered by Biosense Webster.”

He added that the product makes reaching a greater scope of anatomy more simple for physicians and thus assists in achieving procedural success.

Last month, Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Cordis Neurovascular announced that its Cordis Enterprise vascular reconstruction device and delivery system had been given a CE Mark for the treatment of intracranial aneurisms in use with occlusive devices in Europe.
