Johnson and Johnson seeks approval for new skin treatment

Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development (J&JPRD) has issued the latest application for approval for ceftobiprole, a new treatment for complicated skin and skin structure infections, the company has said.

J&JPRD, which is part of the most broadly-based healthcare products and related services in the world, said ceftobiprole could be used to treat conditions such as foot infections linked to some types of diabetes.

Together with its development partner, Swiss firm Basilea Pharmaceutica, it is now seeking approval for the drug from the Food and Drug Administration in the United States through a New Drug Application (NDA).

It follows the company’s submission of NDAs for its approval in Europe, Australia and Canada among others. These applications are currently under regulatory review.

Johnson & Johnson comprises 250 companies providing healthcare product and related services throughout the world. The company employs some 119,000 people and has bases in 57 countries.
