Johnson and Johnson unit to purchase SterilMed
Johnson and Johnson has announced that its Ethicon Endo-Surgery business unit is to acquire the medical technology firm SterilMed.
A leader in the field of reprocessing and remanufacturing medical devices, SterilMed is to be purchased for an undisclosed fee and will be managed as part of Ethicon Endo-Surgery, while retaining its brand name and independent operating model.
The newly purchased firm offers products and services such as medical device reprocessing, equipment repair and pre-owned equipment sales, with the aim of delivering efficiency and environmental benefits for healthcare providers.
Johnson and Johnson states that the takeover will build on the existing success of SterilMed, while broadening the capabilities of Ethicon Endo-Surgery in a growing business area.
Karen Licitra, company group chair and worldwide franchise chair for Ethicon Endo-Surgery, said: "We can continue our focus on developing innovative surgical solutions, while providing healthcare facilities a wider range of flexible product options to save money, reduce medical waste and maintain quality care for patients."
Earlier this month, Johnson and Johnson announced the availability of a new medical device called OneTouch SelectSimple, a blood glucose monitoring system from its LifeScan division.
