Johnson and Johnson unveils new haemostat
Johnson & Johnson have announced the launch of its Surgiflo Haemostatic Matrix with FlexTip, a “pre-filled, flowable” haemostat.
The firm claims that the new haemostat product is the only one available on the market that enables customisation of consistency by surgeons.
A key feature of the product is the new “bendable applicator tip” which provides easier access and more exact placement. The firm says that the haemostat is suitable for uneven surfaces and trials have shown that it can achieve haemostasis in under two minutes when combined with thrombin.
Dr Robert J Banco, of the New England Baptist Hospital, comments: “The new FlexTip enhances my visibility by managing bleeding fast without interfering with my line of sight.
“Since I work through small incisions during minimally invasive spine surgery, the new tip provides easy access to the hard-to-reach bleeding sites.”
According to the firm, the Surgiflo Haemostatic Matrix is intended for use in surgical procedures where conventional means of controlling bleeding is “ineffective or impractical”.
Johnson & Johnson, which has 230 operating companies and employs more than 116,000 people, achieved sales worth in excess of $50.5 billion (27 billion pounds) worldwide.
