Johnson and Johnson’s Animas receives CE Mark for insulin pump

6th June 2011

Johnson and Johnson's Animas subsidiary has won European approval for the launch of an innovative new insulin pump.

The Animas Vibe has received CE Mark accreditation ahead of its UK launch and is the first and only insulin pump system that incorporates continuous glucose monitoring functionality.

Incorporating technology from Dexcom, the device can be worn for up to seven days and provides users with real-time information on their glucose levels, allowing them to make more informed choices about their treatment.

Other innovative features of the device include its waterproof design and high-contrast colour pump screen technology, which helps to clearly communicate information.

Henry Anhalt, chief medical officer for Animas, said: "The CE Mark approval for Animas Vibe is a significant milestone for our research and development programme and for people living with diabetes who are seeking better ways to manage their disease."

In the first quarter of 2011, Johnson and Johnson generated a sales total of $16.2 billion (9.88 billion pounds), representing a 3.2 percent year-on-year increase.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800568543-ADNFCR
