Kimberly-Clark, Danone involved in carbon footprint standard
Danone and Kimberly-Clark are two over-the-counter pharmacy brands involved in a new standard launched to assess businesses’ carbon footprints.
The companies’ product ranges were involved in a pilot scheme run by the Carbon Trust for the new standard ? PAS 2050 ? which is a consistent way to measure greenhouse gas emissions of goods and services throughout their life cycles.
Defra, which is introducing the standard alongside the Carbon Trust and BSI British Standards, said emissions can be counted “from sourcing raw materials, through to manufacture, distribution, use and disposal”.
Carbon Trust chief executive Tom Delay described PAS 2050 as an “exciting development” that can help businesses understand the impact their products have in terms of carbon emissions.
“For the first time, businesses have a robust, consistent standard for measuring the carbon footprint of their goods and services,” he said.
Kimberly-Clark’s brands include Kotex, Depend and Kleenex. Last year, almost 1.3 billion people bought the company’s products, it claims.
