Krka UK Introduces Spot-On Feline Wormer Pet Shield
Krka UK has introduced Pet Shield Worm Screen Spot-on for cats, an NFA-VPS worming treatment combining topical administration with broad-spectrum protection against key intestinal worms. Announced on 15 October 2026, the spot-on contains emodepside and praziquantel to target roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms, positioning Krka’s Pet Shield brand against the established Profender franchise in the growing UK OTC companion animal parasiticide market.
Pet Shield Worm Screen Spot-on is supplied in an easy-to-use pipette designed to help owners apply the correct dose simply and confidently, with three dosage strengths detailed on the product packaging and leaflet. The product is suitable for cats and kittens from eight weeks of age weighing at least 0.5kg, and can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Krka has made point-of-sale materials available across the broader Pet Shield range to support in-store displays, raise awareness of parasite control and help retail teams discuss suitable treatment options with customers through the NFA-VPS channel (non-food animal, veterinarian, pharmacist, SQP).
The launch extends Krka’s growing UK companion animal parasiticides and pharmaceuticals portfolio, following the recent September 2026 launch of Robexera (robenacoxib) as the first generic feline NSAID chewable tablet in the UK. The emodepside and praziquantel active ingredient combination is a bioequivalent approach to Elanco’s established Profender spot-on cat wormer (previously held by Bayer Animal Health). The launch intensifies competitive pressure across the UK OTC/retail-channel feline parasiticide market, with competitors including Elanco, Boehringer Ingelheim (Broadline), Zoetis (Revolution), MSD Animal Health, Virbac, Vetoquinol (Milbemax) and other generic parasiticide specialists.
The commercial signal is a maturing UK OTC companion animal parasiticides market where generic entrants are intensifying competitive pressure on originator franchises across both prescription and SQP retail channels. Topical administration remains a key differentiator for cat compliance. Expect Elanco (Profender), Boehringer Ingelheim, Zoetis, MSD Animal Health, Virbac and Vetoquinol to sharpen their UK feline parasiticide positioning through 2027.
