Lab M launches Captivate O91 for detection of STEC strains

29th July 2015

Lab M has announced the launch of Captivate O91, the newest addition to its Captivate range of immunomagnetic separation (IMS) products.

Designed for the isolation of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) strains associated with life-threatening foodborne infections, the product comprises magnetic particles coated with specific antibodies designed for the isolation of E. coli O91.

Because it is highly selective, Captivate O91 can be used to separates E. coli O91 from background flora in a sample, ensuring that only organisms with O91 antigens are captured.

E. coli O91 is one of the most common human pathogenic eae-negative STEC strains and is considered to be a major public health threat in some European countries.

Melanie Patterson, head of business development at Lab M, said: "Testing for some STEC serotypes is now mandatory, as it remains is one of the most dangerous foodborne pathogens, with life-threatening clinical manifestations and a very low infective dose."

The company is also playing a key role in helping the Food Standards Agency to combat the spread of campylobacter in fresh chickens sold in the UK.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801795919-ADNFCR
