Lab21’s MycAssay Aspergillus shows effectiveness in new study

Lab21 has published data from a recent evaluation of MycAssay Aspergillus, its CE-marked assay product for use in the detection of invasive Aspergillosis (IA).

The product was utilised among a mixed population of 158 patients with underlying haematological or critical illness, in order to assess its reliability and performance compared with clinical diagnosis and conventional diagnostic tests.

Analysis of bronchoalveolar lavage samples showed that MycAssay Aspergillus offers sensitive and specific detection capabilities, performing better than other assays and showing marked superiority to culture-based methods.

Berwyn Clarke, chief scientific officer at Lab21, said additional studies are now being conducted to assess the device's utility in high-risk settings.

"The results of this evaluation confirm that our new CE-marked assay for the diagnosis of IA represents a first-in-class addition to fungal diagnostics enabling faster, more reliable and sensitive case detection," he added.

This comes after the company announced last month that it is extending the scope of its Clinical Pathology Accreditation to encompass molecular biology and virology.
