Leica Microsystems and TrueVision 3D launch new microscope

Leica Microsystems and TrueVision 3D Surgical have allied to create a digital 3D-integrated ophthalmic microscope that offers several operational benefits.

Key components of the TrueVision 3D intelligent digital visualisation and guidance platform have been integrated with select future models of Leica Microsystems' ophthalmic surgical microscopes to create the new offering, which will be marketed under the Leica brand.

The launch is designed to help establish integrated 3D visualisation and guidance as the standard of care in microsurgery, allowing users to see a larger viewing area when carrying out astigmatic corrections and advanced intraocular lens placements.

Dr James Katz, a board-certified ophthalmologist and TrueVision 3D/Leica user from the Midwest Center for Sight near Chicago, said: "This unprecedented pairing allows the surgeon to apply preoperative diagnostic data at the point of surgery for limbal relaxing incision placement and toric IOL alignment in the live field of view on the 3D screen."

This comes after Leica introduced a new version of its powerful Leica Application Suite Advanced Fluorescence research microscopy software platform last week.
