Leica: New microscope sheds light on sub-cellular structures
Leica has unveiled its latest super-resolution microscope.
Based on Stefan Hell’s award-winning and patented concept of Stimulated Emission Depletion (STED) technology, the Leica TCS STED is noted for enabling the observation of details previously impossible with any light microscope.
The device is expected to provide new insights into sub-cellular structures.
"The Leica TCS STED will become an indispensable tool for breakthrough research in neuroscience, membrane biology, structural biology and genetics, where STED technology has already been successfully applied," commented a spokesperson for the manufacturer.
Claiming that the new model presents the "perfect system for multi-user facilities", the spokesperson added: "The STED module, which is also available as an upgrade for existing systems, is fully integrated into the hard- and software environment of the broadband platform Leica TCS SP5."
According to the company, the combination of advanced technology components results in a stable system offering maximum efficiency and flexibility, with the "intuitive workflow" and comfortable handling making it easy for any user to obtain "outstanding results".
Leica Microsystems introduced its "enhanced imaging solution" for biological and materials sciences earlier this month, with the digital microscopes described as quickly and easily capturing "excellent images" and achievable reliable research results.
