Life warns over abortion drug

21st March 2006

The UK caring charity Life has warned the government about an abortion drug used in America following the death of two patients who used the drug.

According to the charity, the US Food and Drug Administration confirmed that two patients administered with the RU-486 abortion drug died, bringing the number of fatalities associated with the drug to seven.

“While there have been? confirmed deaths linked to the drug in the US, three women have already died from it in the UK,” said Michaela O’Sullivan, a spokesperson for Life.

“While there is a wealth of peer-reviewed evidence which illustrates the psychological damage that abortion inflicts upon women, the dangers of RU-486 clearly illustrate the potentially lethal physical consequences.”

The charity has said that the abortion pill has injured some 850 more people in the United States and that the government in the UK is already reviewing the safety of RU-486 as a take-home medical supervision-free drug.

Life has said that the continued use of the drug is encouraging women “to abort in their backroom”.
