LifeScan provides donations for International Diabetes Federation

LifeScan has announced plans to donate products to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) to aid its Life for a Child charity programme in developing nations.

The company is contributing one million OneTouch-branded test strips to children with diabetes in Mali, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Guyana and Guatemala, in honour of World Diabetes Day.

This donation will enable up to 1,300 young people with diabetes in these seven countries to monitor their blood glucose at least twice daily for around a year.

It is the first time many of these children have ever had access to devices of this kind, with the initiative also designed to help raise awareness of the IDF's ongoing global mission.

Michel Paul, company group chairman for the Johnson and Johnson family of diabetes companies, said: "With the help of this programme, we hope to improve the lives of children around the world who are struggling to manage their diabetes."

Earlier this year, it was announced that LifeScan will be establishing a new research and development base in Inverness, which will become a hub for diabetes research in the area of blood glucose monitoring.
