Lilly announces appointment of new department heads

Lilly has re-shuffled its ranks and revealed a raft of new appointments within its various divisions.

Jointly heading up its Development Centre of Excellence will be Tim Garnett and Tom Verhoeven. The former will assume responsibility for medical, regulatory and global health outcomes, while his colleague will oversee clinical development organisation, toxicology and project management.

The firm’s oncology unit will be placed in the hands of John Johnson, current chief executive of wholly-owned subsidiary ImClone Systems.

Enrique Conterno, the current president of the firm’s US operations, will lead the diabetes department, while Bryce Carmine has been appointed as head of the firm’s established markets business operations.

Lastly, Lilly’s current president of the intercontinental region Jacques Tapiero will be at the helm of the emerging markets business unit and Jeffrey Simmons is to lead Elanco – the firm’s animal health arm.

Earlier this wee, the organisation announced that it would establish the Development Centre of Excellence and revealed further plans to reorganise its pharmaceutical business into four separate divisions to operate alongside Elanco.
