Lilly reports new clinical data supporting diabetes drug Trulicity

14th June 2016

Lilly has announced new phase III clinical trial data that demonstrates the strong performance of its diabetes drug Trulicity.

It was shown that the therapy, when used as an add-on to insulin glargine, significantly reduced haemoglobin A1c levels and body weight without increasing the risk of low blood sugar after 28 weeks, compared to placebo plus insulin glargine.

The AWARD trial programme has consistently demonstrated Trulicity's efficacy in improving glycaemic control among diabetes patients. Data from AWARD-9 builds on the available information and shows the viability of using Trulicity in combination with insulin glargine.

Results from this new trial were presented at the American Diabetes Association's scientific sessions in New Orleans.

Zvonko Milicevic, senior medical fellow for Lilly Diabetes, said: "For people with type 2 diabetes who are inadequately controlled on insulin glargine alone, AWARD-9 may show that Trulicity is a treatment option that could significantly reduce A1C when used in combination with their current insulin therapy."

Diabetes remains one of Lilly's four core therapeutic focus areas, alongside oncology, immunology and neurodegeneration.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801820172-ADNFCR
