Lilly says it is focused on tailored therapies

Lilly is concentrating on producing “tailored therapies”, it has asserted.

Dr Richard Gaynor, vice-president of the company, made this comment after it was announced the firm would be presenting data from over 50 studies at the 45th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

Among the research discussed will be the findings of Gemzar ? for patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer ? and Alimta ? designed to aid sufferers of malignant pleural mesothelioma.

Both medications are intended for those who cannot undergo surgery.

The theme of the meeting will be “personalising cancer care” and Dr Gaynor remarked the ethos is core to Lilly’s business, adding it is just as important to identify patients who will not respond to therapy as to identify those that will.

“With ASCO studies focusing on non-small cell lung cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer and biliary tract cancer ? Lilly will demonstrate its continued commitment to meeting the needs of patients across a broad oncology spectrum,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the company was honoured this week with the bronze award for Health Information and Decision Support in the 2009 Best Practices in Healthcare Consumer Empowerment and Protection Awards.
