Lundbeck pleased with results of depression study

Lundbeck is pleased with the results of a recently-conducted clinical trial for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD).

The company investigated the efficacy of the compound LuAA24530 and compared three doses of it to placebo for six weeks using the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale.

An active reference compound, duloxetine, was used in the study and produced significant outcomes compared to the placebo.

But LuAA24530, according to Lundbeck, provided consistent statistically significant improvements. It was also well-tolerated with low drop-out rates due to serious adverse events.

Executive vice-president Anders Gersel Pedersen, who is also head of drug development for the company, said it has “potential value” for MDD treatments.

He added: “We are pleased with the combination of efficacy and good tolerability for LuAA24530 which clearly supports the development of the compound as a future treatment option for physicians and patients.”

MDD is one of the disorders Lundbeck is committed to researching.

It aims to find new treatments for central nervous disorders such as schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease, insomnia and Parkinson’s disease.
